African Nations Championship Qualifiers: Ghana Coach Aims To Beat Nigeria In Uyo

2024 CHAN Qualifiers between Ghana and Nigeria

Black Galaxies of Ghana head coach Mas-Ud Dramani said his team is aiming to beat Nigeria in the upcoming return leg of the 2024 CHAN qualifiers.

This statement comes in the wake of a goalless draw recorded between the home-based national team of Ghana and that of Nigeria in the first leg, which took place on Sunday, December 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The crucial return leg is set to take place on Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, and it holds significant importance as the winner will secure a spot in the CHAN tournament scheduled for next year in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Following the first leg match, where both Nigeria and Ghana failed to find the back of the net, Dramani said, “When we don’t qualify, it is still positive. What is positive about this is that these boys have been exposed to a certain level of our Ghanaian league.”

He highlighted the opportunity this tournament presents for the players to showcase their skills and the depth of the domestic competition on a continental platform.

Dramani, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Black Stars, further elaborated on the team’s mental approach.

“We are not even thinking about the implications of losing; our sole focus is on how to prepare effectively and travel to Nigeria with the right attitude to compete on the pitch,” he asserted.

Ghana aims to outshine Nigeria and achieve qualification for the CHAN tournament for the second consecutive time, a feat that would bolster their standing in African football.
