The socio-political group, Afenifere, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing disappointment over what it described as a lack of empathy toward the struggles Nigerians are facing amid rising hardship, insecurity, and hunger.
Following a meeting held at the residence of Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo in Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, the group highlighted its concerns in a communiqué signed by Deputy Leader, Oba Oladipo Olaitan and Deputy Secretary-General, Alade Rotimi-John.
Afenifere lamented the government’s apparent detachment from the “pervasive hardship” in the country, pointing to recent policy moves like the fuel price hike as exacerbating people’s suffering.
Afenifere further noted that it sees no clear plan from the Tinubu administration to alleviate the distressing economic conditions that Nigerians are grappling with.
According to the communiqué, the absence of a coherent programme reflects a lack of concern for citizens’ welfare during a time of unprecedented national challenges.
The statement reads, “Afenifere reviewed the unremitting distressing state of the nation’s social and economic situation under the President Bola Tinubu administration.
“Meeting observed that the distressful condition of the country is exemplified in pervasive hardship, unflagging insecurity and incapacitating hunger.
“The meeting noted the absence of official empathy respecting the people’s agonising situation.
“Meeting has instead observed an unwearying policy enunciation ostensibly aimed at compounding the woes of the people, e.g. the unabating fuel price hike.
“Meeting further observed the cavalier conduct of state affairs in, for instance, the absence of any coherent or unequivocal programme on the part of the government and its party.”
