The Theatre and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Yoruba comic actor, Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba Suwe.
Naija News earlier reported that the shocking news of the actor’s death was announced on Monday by his son, Adesola Morenikeji Omidina, who posted it via his official Instagram page.
Though the cause of his sudden death wasn’t disclosed, Baba Suwe was believed to have been battling illness for a long time before his demise.
Baba Suwe was born on August 22, 1958 (63 years), in Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
Reacting to the sad news, the President of TAMPAN, Bolani Amusan popularly known as Mr Latin, said the association is sad to hear about the death of Baba Suwe.
Amusan says he has no further information concerning the death of the veteran actor, saying the family of the deceased will release more details concerning the burial.
“I have no information right now on how and where he died. All I can tell you is that he is dead,” he said.
In a related development, fans of the comic actor have taken to social media to react to the news of his death.
The fans also blamed the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the death of the veteran comic actor.
Naija News recalls that NDLEA arrested the late veteran actor with claims that he was in possession of substances suspected to be cocaine.
The late actor in an exclusive interview a few months ago revealed he was battling health and unable to walk, no thanks to the experience meted out to him by the personnel of the NDLEA.
One Instagram user, romanranking while reacting wrote; ‘We can never forget what NDLEA did to this man and how to made him suffer without any settlement. RIP Sir’
Another user, a fan datblackbeautychick1 wrote; ‘RIP LEGEND! Thanks for making our childhood memories fun… May God give enough strength to the bereaved family to bear the irreparable loss.’
