2023 presidential aspirant, Aminu Tambuwal has revealed why he was not in agreement with President Muhammadu Buhari’s style of leadership.
The politician who is serving his second term as the Governor of Sokoto State said he wouldn’t have agreed with Buhari with the way his government has ruled Nigeria over the last seven years.
Tambuwal said Buhari’s poor leadership and the affairs of the ruling All Progressive Congress pushed him out of the party to join forces with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The presidential aspirant said he joined PDP so he can work together with other members and stakeholders of the party to rescue the country.
Naija News understands that Tambuwal stated this when he met with former PDP ministers on Friday, April 29.
He stressed that Nigeria cannot afford to elect a president that does not understand the complexities of the country.
Soliciting the support of former ministers, the majority of whom worked with former President Goodluck Jonathan, Tambuwal said “Some of you may say but you’re a part of those who participated in the process to oust the PDP government in 2015. Yes, I was. And the reason is clear. When my dear brother Sheidu Tambuwal came to my house in Apo village in 2011 with the form of President Goodluck Jonathan seeking nomination on the platform of the PDP For me to nominate him, I did sign the nomination forms for the President Goodluck Jonathan 2011 and participated actively in my home in my local government in My state to deliver president Jonathan.”
Noting that he had no personal issues with Jonathan, Tambuwal said, “In 2017 and 2018 I told so many of my political associates that I’ve disagreed also with the way president Buhari was running this country.”
He added, “If you talk about ethnicity, if you talk about religion, myself and president Buhari are from the same ethnic background I work from the same religious belief, but I disagree also with the way he was and still running our country, and I took the risk, coming from the North West, a sitting governor who could have won his election possibly sleeping in his bedroom in 2019 but I took the risk and left APC because I disagreed completely with the way he was running the government and join the PDP for us to work together to see that we rescue the country.
“So it is all about this country, nothing personal, nothing selfish, But all of it is about altruism, patriotism and building our country together.”
In his remark, Chairman of the PDP former ministers forum, Tanimu Turaki, said Nigeria is in its present situation because of a lack of leadership, Naija News reports.
He added: “Never in our history have we been so divided along many lines, many unimaginable lines, and we feel it is important we do not only get good leadership, but we get a leadership that will have the capacity to take decisive decisions that will keep this country together.
“We believe we need a leader that will be capable of building strong bridges of friendship across the various divides,” he said.
