Intrigues In Kastina Gubernatorial Race As Four Candidates Battle To Succeed Aminu Masari

As the katsina state gubernatorial election draws closer, there are fears that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might not retain power over Governir Aminu Masari’s failure to fulfill his promises on insecurity and the crisis rocking the party.

Katsina, the country home of President Muhammadu Buhari, like many states in the North Western region, is witnessing a series of terrorist attacks that have led to the death and displacement of millions of residents.

Although Masiri has consistently expressed displeasure over the issue of insecurity in the state and promised the resident that the candidate of APC would continue the fight against terrorists.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), no fewer than 13 political parties have fielded their candidates for the election, however, Naija News in this article highlights a brief biography of the four major contenders.

1. Dikko Umar Radda: The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate is a Ph.D. holder, former local government chairman, former chief of staff to Governor Masari, and the immediate past director-general of the Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Agency of Nigeria.

2. Yakubu Lado Danmarke: The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate is reportedly a wealthy businessman, completely financing the party at the state level which made him popular among supporters.

Danmarke was a local government chairman, member of the House of Representatives, and senator.

3. Nura Khalil: The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate is a graduate of Civil Engineering and three times time Governorship candidate in Kastina State.

Khalil has no record of serving in any position in government and reports have it that the candidate only shows up in the state when it is election season and disappears almost immediately mostly to foreign countries.

He is also considered someone who lacks the resources or financial strength to mobilize the electorate.

4. Ibrahim Abu-Musawa: Labour Party (LP) candidate has contested three times for the governorship of the state in 2011, 2015, and 2019.

He was elected Senator for the Katsina South (Funtua) Senatorial district in April 2003 on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform, serving for one term until May 2007.

Abu Ibrahim was briefly the chairman of the Katsina branch of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), in 2002, following a series of allegations, he was forced to resign the position and leave the party, during their National Convention.
