The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has slammed Ohanaeze Ndigbo for blaming the North for the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the PDP Presidential candidate.
It also denied claims that the North ganged up against the South East at the just concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Primaries held on Saturday in Abuja.
Naija News earlier reported that Ohanaeze spokesman, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, had said the Igbo group was not happy with the Northern conspiracy against the South-East.
Reacting to the development, the CNG spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, slammed Ohanaeze and PANDEF for blaming the North for the loss of the Southern region.
He said the Southern groups derive pleasure in making the North the target of their accusations and abuse for everything that is wrong in the country.
He said, “You see, we are not card-carrying members of any of the political parties and moreover we did not have any influence over the process. It was purely a delegates’ affair which we have never been comfortable with.
“We have been strong advocates of direct primary. Everyone has seen the blatant and shameful commercialisation of the process. We’re more concerned about the credibility of the process because that is what will ultimately determine the quality of the outcome.
“As for PANDEF and Ohanaeze turning around to blame the North for their miscalculations, it is quite predictable. These people tend to derive pleasure in making the North the target of their accusations and abuse for everything that is wrong with Nigeria.”
