Ebonyi PDP Factional Gov Candidate, Ogba Names His Running Mate

A factional governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Sen. Obinna Ogba has named his running mate for the 2023 elections.

Naija News reports that the candidate who currently is the lawmaker representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone in the national assembly declared Dr Oliver Osi as his running mate ahead of the polls.

Ogba said the choice of Osi was arrived at after a series of consultations among party stakeholders. He confirmed his choice in a letter addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Sen. Iyiorcha Ayu.

Osi is the lawmaker representing the Ivo State Constituency in the Ebonyi House of Assembly

Ogba’s letter to Ayu which was dated June 22, read: “In compliance with Section 187(1) and (2) of the 1999 Nigeria Constitution, as amended, the electoral guidelines and the PDP guidelines, I write to convey my nomination of Dr Oliver Osi as the deputy governorship candidate of our great party in the 2023 general election.

“His nomination is the outcome of detailed and wide-ranging consultations with party stakeholders in the state. I have no doubt that his inclusion will add strong electoral value to our ticket.”

It could be recalled that Ogba won the PDP governorship ticket in the primary election conducted weeks ago in the state by a faction led by Mr Tochukwu Okorie.

Naija News understands, however, that there are currently two factions of the PDP in Ebonyi State.

An Abakaliki Federal High Court earlier in June nullified the primary election conducted by the Ogba group and upheld the primaries conducted by Mr Silas Onu’s led faction.

The Onu’s faction elected Dr Ifeanyichukwu Odii as the party’s governorship candidate on May 29.

Both Okorie and Onu are laying claims to the chairmanship of the party in Ebonyi.
