APC Suspends Kogi Governorship Campaign

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended its governorship campaign in Kogi State ahead of the November 11 governorship election.

Naija News learnt that the governorship campaign was suspended as a mark of respect for Ms Khadijat Yahaya, a member of the party who died after an attack by suspected thugs.

The spokesperson for the State Campaign Council, Kingsley Fanwo disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday.

Khadijat allegedly lost her life after a clash between supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and those of the APC in Kotonkarfe on Sept. 29.

Meanwhile, the state APC governorship candidate, Alhaji Usman Ododo, visited the family of the deceased in Kotonkarfe on Tuesday to sympathise with them over her demise.

Ododo expressed shock at her demise and prayed to God for the repose of her soul.

In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed apprehension over the likely effect of insecurity on the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi and Imo States.

INEC through one of its National Commissioners, Mallam Mohammed Kudu Haruna expressed worries about the impact the security situation in the states may have on the conduct of elections.

The electoral umpire appealed to all stakeholders to shun violence and embrace peace before, during and after the elections scheduled for November 11, 2023, so voters can carry out their civic duties of electing new leaders.
