Buhari’s Former Aide Reacts Ahead Of Kano Governorship Election Ruling

Former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has prayed for a favourable judgment for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the appeal filed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State challenging the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal, which sacked him from office.

The Court of Appeal, Kano Division, will today, November 6, 2023, hear the appeal filed by Governor Yusuf challenging the judgment of the Election Petitions Tribunal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

It would be recalled that the tribunal had ruled in favour of the APC when it declared its candidate, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, as the winner of the March 18 governorship election.

The tribunal nullified the election of Governor Yusuf by declaring 165,663 of his votes invalid, saying that they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Consequently, the court declared the APC candidate as the winner of the governorship election and ordered INEC to withdraw Yusuf’s certificate of return and issue it to Gawuna.

Dissatisfied with the judgment, Governor Yusuf and his party, NNPP, approached the appellate court to challenge the judgment delivered by the tribunal.

In a post via his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday morning, Ahmad extended his best wishes to the APC candidate, Gawuna, ahead of the ruling of the appellate court, and also prayed for the well-being of Kano state.

He wrote: “As the Court of Appeal hears the appeal of Gov. Abba K. Yusuf/NNPP challenging the decision of the Tribunal Court later today, I extend my best wishes to H.E. Dr Nasir Yusuf Gawuna. May the legal proceedings lead to a favourable outcome for our party and, more importantly, for the well-being of our beloved state, Kano.
