The recent dynamite attack on the Action Peoples Party (APP) Secretariat in Port Harcourt on Monday morning has sparked concerns, with sources suggesting that the incident may be connected to rising speculations that Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara and his supporters are plotting to defect to the party.
The APP Secretariat, located in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Port Harcourt, was targeted in an early morning attack, introducing a new and alarming dimension to the ongoing political tensions in the state.
The attack has left many questioning the motives behind the violence, with suspicions pointing to the governor’s rumoured political moves.
Prior to the explosion, there had been widespread speculation that Governor Fubara and his teeming supporters were planning to leave their current political platform for the APP.
These rumours gained traction after the APP Secretariat recently underwent a significant facelift, further fueling speculation that it was being prepared to welcome new high-profile members.
The explosion, which damaged parts of the Secretariat, has raised alarms among party members and the general public.
A source who spoke with The Nation said, “After the renovation, the speculation became widespread that the governor and his supporters are seeking refuge in APP because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been hijacked by the former Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his loyalists.
“Some persons are not happy that the Governor has divided the political family that brought him to power and is planning to move them to another party. This is the reason for the bombing.”
Though Fubara had not publicly announced any plan to dump the PDP, the Governor had berated the PDP, accusing it of failing the State.
