Having lost to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has declared that the Labour Party will secure victory in the 2027 election and assume control of the state.
Naija News reports that Rhodes-Vivour was the Labour Party governorship candidate in the previous election.
Speaking during a press interaction in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, where he participated in an extensive Stakeholders’ meeting of the Labour Party, Rhodes-Vivour emphasized that the party has strengthened its position to take over Lagos State effectively.
He noted that the Labour Party has been diligently strategizing and building upon its successes following a commendable performance in the 2023 elections, particularly during the presidential poll in which it made significant inroads in the former Nigerian capital.
Rhodes-Vivour expressed his contentment with the results of the stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, indicating that the party’s prospects have been significantly enhanced.
He stated that the party is now well-organized and poised to win and seize power in 2027.
He further remarked that their gathering in Umuahia ensured unity among all members as they prepared for new triumphs in 2027.
“I believe Labour Party will win Lagos State more convincingly in 2027. Since after the 2023 elections, work has not stopped; we have not gone quiet. Every day, we are getting stronger and stronger.
“So, we are not just going to win but stand up and take power,” the politician stated.
He charged the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) with maladministration, asserting that its dismal performance has significantly facilitated the Labour Party’s potential to dominate both Lagos and the nation in 2027.
He further stated that the severe economic difficulties and increasing hunger experienced by the populace serve as undeniable evidence of the incompetence of the ruling party at the national level.
“APC has been failing Nigerians for a very long time. It didn’t start today, although things are harder now,” Rhodes-Vivour added.
He also lauded the LP Leader and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, as well as other stakeholders of the party for the decision to rescue and reposition the party.
“The critical stakeholders of LP came here to take an important decision to move the party forward. This is a very good step in the right direction,” he said.
It is worth noting that LP was deeply involved in a leadership crisis, as the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Comrade Julius Abure, whose term ended in June, had been engaged in disputes with the Nigeria Labour Congress, the party’s governing body.
However, during the recent meeting, the stakeholders resolved the conflict by appointing a 29-member Caretaker Committee, chaired by former Finance Minister Senator Nenadi Usman, tasked with revitalizing the party and organizing a new convention within 90 days.
