Imo State Ready For Re-run Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that 184,678 voters will be participating in Saturday’s supplementary elections in Imo North Senatorial district, Okigwe North and Okigwe South Federal constituencies of the state respectively.
Naija News recall that violence and snatching of ballot boxes were recorded in some of the local governments when the presidential and national assembly held across the 36 states last week.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof Francis Ezeonu who gave the breakdown at a media briefing at INEC’s office in Owerri, said that the rerun elections will hold alongside governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Ezeonu disclosed that the supplementary election would take place in 149 polling units in Okigwe South federal constituency.
According to the REC, the supplementary election would equally take place in 153 polling units in Okigwe North federal constituency.
Ezeonu explained that supplementary election would be conducted in 302 polling units in Imo North senatorial district.
Ezeonu said, “Supplementary elections will take place in 149 polling units in Okigwe south federal constituency. The supplementary election will also take place in 153 polling units in Okigwe North federal constituency.”
“In Imo North senatorial district, the supplementary election will take place in 302 polling units. These rerun elections will hold alongside governorship and state assembly elections. We expect it would be peaceful and successful this time.”
