The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the killing of over 20 Nigeria soldiers in attacks in Borno State.
According to Reuters, IS disclosed they were behind the attack in a post published on a website.
Naija News had reported that at least six soldiers of the Nigerian Army have been reportedly shot dead by Boko Haram insurgents in an attack on a military base in Kareto, a community in Mobba local government area of Borno state.
It was learned that the group staged the attack around 7 pm on Thursday, June 13. The insurgents were said to have invaded the military formation on motorbikes.
IS claims an army commander was shot dead in the attack which the military is yet to confirm.
The attack has however left many soldiers dead with many others still missing.
IS claims its affiliate, the Islamic State In West Africa (ISWA), which broke out from Boko Haram in 2016, has carried out a number of attacks in the northeast over the last few months.
