Buhari Presents 2020 Budget To Lawmakers

All is now set for President Muhammadu Buhari to present the 2020 budget estimates to a joint sitting of the National Assembly.

As previously reported by Naija News, the President is set to present the 2020 budget estimate to a joint sitting of the Senate and House of Reps today (Tuesday) by 2pm.

The President is expected to present a budget proposal of about N9.79 trillion to the National Assembly.

The amount represents an increase of 9.75 per cent over N8.916 trillion budgeted for 2019.

Recall both chambers of the National Assembly had earlier passed the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper MTEF/FSP presented by the president.

3:10 PM – To wrap up the budget presentation session, the lawmakers are taking the closing prayers.

3:04 PM – House Speaker, Gbajabiamila takes the note of appreciation after the budget estimates have been laid before the lawmakers, calling for synergy between all arms of government in the activities of nation-building.

3:01 PM: The President is accorded a rapturous applause and a standing ovation by the lawmakers after his speech and presentation.

3:00 PM – President Buhari lays the N10.729 trillion 2020 budget proposal before the lawmakers after talking to the document.

2: 50 PM – Buhari expresses desire to return the budget cycle to a January to December timeline.

2:19 PM – President Muhammadu Buhari begins the budget presentation.

2:17 PM – After his opening address, Dr. Lawan has invited President Buhari for the budget presentation. He is currently addressing the lawmakers.

2:10 PM – President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan takes the welcome address as he expresses the expectation of the lawmakers on the 2020 budget presentation.

2:05 PM – President Muhammadu Buhari is now in the chamber and after exchanging pleasantries with Senate President Ahmad Lawan and House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, he takes his seat after the National Anthem has been sung.

2:00 PM – The President makes his entrance into the National Assembly chambers.

1:45 PM – The Senate adopts a motion to join their colleagues in the House of Representatives in the green chamber to receive President Muhammadu Buhari for the presentation of the 2020 appropriation bill.
