The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reacted to the alleged reports that N900 million in its custody turned to paper.
The agency, in a statement by its spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, and made available on the agency’s twitter handle said the information was false very mischievous and a gross misrepresentation of facts of the matter”.
Uwujaren also revealed that they merely went to the Ibadan branch of the CBN to inspect the boxes and the mutilated contents in the course of its investigation of the case, which is now before Justice P.I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Lagos.
In a series of tweets on Monday, the EFCC said “at no point were the boxes of the mutilated naira notes taken to the office of the EFCC”.
“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has been drawn to several online reports alleging that about N900 million of mutilated naira notes being subject of prosecution at the Federal High Court, Ibadan, and kept in several boxes in EFCC’s custody has turned to paper,” the tweets read.
