Northern Youths React To Launching Of Operation Amotekun

Northern Youths Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has berated the formation of the newly launched security outfit ‘Operation Amotekun’ in the Southwest zone of the country.

Naija News Understands that National President of NYCN, Alhaji Isah Abubakar, in a statement issued in Kaduna, urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to stop the newly launched initiative.

He also described the security outfit as the military wing of the Oodua Peoples Congress in disguise.

“Amotekun group in Southwest is OPC Military wing in disguise and in the same league with the proscribe IPOB. The President must not allow this unconstitutionality to prevail,” he said.

Isah said Southwest governors must desist from backing such groups as the Amotekum and said that Amotekun is a threat to peace and national security and an attempt to jeopardize Nigeria’s sovereignty.

He said Nigerian Police, DSS and Army shouldn’t take this lightly with the governors of Southwest. He also said the National Security Adviser should promptly take steps that will avert the looming threat to Nigeria’s national security by Southwest governors, OPC, and others.

However, it will be recalled that the proposed threat of  ‘Operation Amotekun’ turning into a military wing was one of the warnings raised by several stakeholders in the southwest region prior to the launching of the outfit.

Naija News also recalls that one of the most respected monarchs in the southwest, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, during the launching of security outfit warned the personnel against militarizing the region.
