Buhari Has No Magic To End Boko Haram Attacks In Nigeria – Shettima

The immediate past governor of Borno State, Senator Kassim Shettima has called on Nigerians to stop ‘demonizing’ President Muhammadu Buhari over the renewed Boko Haram attacks in Borno State.

Shettima, who now represents Borno Central in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, noted that Buhari has done well for the North-East region.

He made the submission while addressing journalists in Abuja after the legislative sitting on Thursday.

The Senator pointed out that Buhari does not possess any magic wand that he can use to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

Shettima also described as “very unfortunate,” the action of some Borno State residents who booed President Buhari on Wednesday during his sympathy visit to the state over the Boko Haram attack which left many dead and several properties destroyed.

“People thought he (Buhari) has a magic wand. He does not have wand. But I believe it’s temporary hiccups,” Shettima said.

He added: “I believe that grandstanding, pouring venom won’t solve the problem. We cannot just demonize Buhari. Buhari did his best and we had a respite between 2015 and 2017 before resurgence (of Boko Haram attacks).

“How to find a solution to our challenges is more important than demonizing anybody. “Buhari has done more than enough for the northeast. He was instrumental to the creation of the North East Development Commission. If we are to apportion blame, we have to be fair to this old man.”

He also told Nigerians to see the fight against insecurity as a collective responsibility. “Fighting insurgency is a collective responsibility,” Shettima said.
