Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has held a meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Chief Judge of FCT, Justice I.U Bello and other government officials.
In a message on his twitter handle, the Minister confirmed that the meeting was basically on the process and procedure to radically decongest our correctional facilities.
He said: “I held a midnight meeting on the process and procedure to radically decongest@CorrectionsNg ’s custodial centres with Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Chief Judge of FCT, Justice I.U Bello and other government officials.”.

Meanwhile in a related development, Fifty-one civil society organisations (CSOs) across the country on Friday urged the Federal Government to urgently decongest Correctional Centres and Police cells.
They accused the police of keeping suspects in custody for minor offences, contrary to the Inspector-General of Police’s instructions, following the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
