The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to domesticate the lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Speaker made this known in a post on his Twitter page on Thursday.
Obasa, commended the state Commissioner for Health Akin Abayomi, noted that the lockdown was not effective.
“I commend the Commissioner for Health @ProfAkinAbayomi, through him to the Executive Governor of Lagos @jidesanwoolu for your unrelenting effort on #COVID19,” he tweeted
“But, I must say that the lockdown is not quite effective, can we domesticate the lockdown by involving the Local government?
“Just as we have the incident command at the State level, can we replicate the same at those Local Government with high rising number of #COVID19.
“If the lockdown will continue, it is better we move with all strategies.”
Naija News recalls that the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday evening confirmed 108 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in Nigeria.
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 981.
In the new cases reported, Lagos had 78 cases, 14 in FCT, five in Ogun, four in Gombe, three in Borno, two in Akwa Ibom, one in Kwara, one in Plateau.
“As at 23rd of April, there are 108 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 197 have been discharged with 31 deaths. There are 27 states with confirmed cases in Nigeria,” NCDC tweeted.
