Promise Gogorodari, the owner of one of the hotels destroyed by the Rivers State government on Sunday has insisted he broke no law that warrants the demolition of his property.
It will be recalled the state government, acting on the orders of the Governor, Nyesom Wike pulled down Prudent Hotel, Eleme, and Etemeteh Hotel, Onne, for allegedly violating the lockdown measures in the state.
However, Gogorodari, owner of Prudent Hotel, Eleme, has spoken out noting the government did not give him a fair hearing and said no investigation was carried out before the demolition of his property.
He further lamented that the state government’s action is a negative development in the state which has resulted in job losses and capable of eroding investor confidence in the state.
Gogorodari who spoke in an interview with Punch said: “I am based in Lagos but I am not in the right frame of mind to speak now. There is nobody who will not feel bad about this. It is a hotel that I built for the past seven years. The demolition of hotels is a setback to the state in terms of investment.”
“That was an investment that was taking care of my family and relatives and people around me. There was no fair hearing before the demolition took place. With this, many people are out of jobs.
“I did not violate any order. The government was supposed to do some investigations before doing that. And if they found me wanting, then another procedure should be followed; not demolishing a structure like that.”
Meanwhile, few hours after the demolition exercise, Governor Nyesom Wike has announced a two-day relaxation of the lockdown on Obio/Akpor and Port Harcourt Local Government Areas.
In a state-wide broadcast on Sunday night, Governor Wike stated that the temporary relaxation will on Tuesday 12th May 2020 and Wednesday, 13th May 2020.
Wike who maintained that the lockdown will be reinstated on Thursday, 14th May 2020, added that all other established restrictions under the Executive Orders on social distancing were still in force.
The governor also stated that there would be compulsory wearing of face mask or scarfs in vehicles and public places.
