Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, has reacted to the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Gambari as President Muhammadu Buhari’s new Chief of Staff.
Naija News had reported earlier that President Buhari appointed Gambari to replace late Abba Kyari who died of Coronavirus in April as his new Chief of Staff.
Professor Gambari hails from Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Reacting to the appointment in a statement on Wednesday after Gambari was unveiled at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) by Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), former Aviation Minister Fani-Kayode who expressed disappointment over the appointment, stressed that Nigeria now has a “Fulani President and a Fulani Chief of Staff with a Fulani agenda“.
Some Nigerians also took to social media to condemned the appointment of another northerner as Chief of Staff.
Reacting in a post on his Twitter page, Festus Keyamo slammed some Nigerians over their bias towards key government appointees.
Keyamo wrote: “Profound congratulations also from us to Professor Ibrahim Gambari. We are extremely proud and excited to have him on board.
“It is quite sad that we have pushed ourselves to the point in this country that when any public appointment is announced, most Nigerians would first research the tribe of the appointee before they research his academic qualifications and competence for the job!”
