The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has asked concerned Nigerians to call to order the prescribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB over it’s a recent declaration.
Recall that the outlawed group had earlier placed a ban on cows reared by Fulani herdsmen for any social event in the Southeast.
Naija News reports that the secessionists made this known in a New Year address by its Head of Directorate Mazi Chika Edoziem through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.
According to IPOB, the ban on Fulani cow trading in the Southeast would take effect from April 2022.
IPOB stated that only native cows would be allowed in the region purposely for events, urging traditional rulers, the clergy and town unions to ensure the message reaches the grassroots.
Naija News reports that the group also banned the recitation of the National Anthem in schools in the region.
Reacting, in a statement issued on Friday (today) through its National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, ACF said the separatists by their declaration have only called for war.
Yawe said this while commenting on the plan by the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria to ban the movement of foodstuffs from the north to the south-east.
According to the ACF Secretary, IPOB went too far this time, saying the separatists shouldn’t have made such a declaration which he described as unnecessary.
Yawe observed that it would be difficult for the forum to appeal to the union this time around.
He described as justifiable the fear and concerns of the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff & Cattle Dealers of Nigeria following the threat by the IPOB.
He said: “We have appealed to this union in the past when their members were attacked and some killed and their property destroyed due to no fault of theirs.”
Yawe recalled how IPOB had at a time mounted a blockade and stopped the supply of foodstuffs to the East. He noted that prices of foodstuff skyrocketed and there was an outcry and due to appeals by the ACF, they lifted the blockade.
“The concerns of the union and their fears are justified. Somebody should call IPOB to order. We are still one country and not at war. Their pronouncements amount to an open declaration of war,” Yawe said.
