Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Azubuike Ihejirika has revealed what prompted him to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the former security chief, he joined the ruling party so he could contribute his quota to nation-building.
Ihejirika faulted the claims that he joined the APC camp to evade investigation by the Federal Government.
He noted that the armed forces which he left at a time Boko Haram insurgency were just building up, have done great in combating terrorism in the country. 
Ihejirika said being a former security chief, his experience counts as Nigeria seeks lasting peace, security and unity, Naija News reports.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of the APC, saying that the party has made substantial efforts since it assumed power in 2015.
Naija News understands that Ihejirika made the assertions on Wednesday while conversing with journalists at his Ovim country home, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State.
Ihejirika stressed that he needed a platform to make himself available “for service both at the State and the national levels”.
His statement read partly: “I left office at a time Boko Haram was building up and we did our best to stem the tide. A lot has been achieved by the Armed Forces in tackling Boko Haram insurgency.”
He, however, urged the next administration to build on the achievements of Buhari’s administration in infrastructure and others.
Speaking on the crisis with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ihejrika said though peaceful agitations and protests were acceptable, the group must never resort to violence.
He urged the national government to hold talks with the separatists to maintain peace and avoid further chaos.
