Nigerians have reacted to the ruling of the Supreme Court on Friday declaring Executive Order 10 issued by President Muhammadu Buhari as unlawful and unconstitutional.
Naija News reports that six out of the seven-member panel of the Supreme Court ruled against the executive order and gave victory to the state governors who had challenged the declaration by the President.
It held that it was not the responsibility of the Federal Government to fund the capital and recurrent expenditures of the superior courts created for States under Section six of the Constitution.
This online platform reports that the order is for the implementation of Financial Autonomy for the State Legislature and Judiciary.
The apex court by its ruling has now set aside executive order 10 also known as the financial autonomy order.
President Buhari according to the order, intends that the legislative and judicial arms of government in the 36 states of the federation will no longer have to wait on State governors for funds.
The President argued that his decision was based on Section 5 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as Amended).
The order has now been declared void by a Supreme Court decision, eliciting different reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Where are the RESTRUCTURING champions or do they think restructuring involves only state police? Tueh
Executive order 10 in the dust bin.

I’m glad to have canvassed in my published paper that PMB’s Executive Order 10 is unconstitutional. No matter how lofty your intention is, you can’t breach the law to achieve same except where the law itself permits the breach. #Knowthelaw pic.twitter.com/7vU1psthty

On Executive Order 10, PMB loses at the Supeme Court. The Apex Court tiles the EO-10 is illegal and unconstitutional. The 36 states took this to court challenging the deduction of their funds from the Federation Account. Governors 1 PMB 0

PMB’s attempt to make State Judiciary & Legislative arms independent of the Executive’s recklessness suffers setback as the Highest Court in the land, Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the Executive order 10 thereby leaving the two arms of Govt at the mercy of State Executives.

Don’t be surprised that some so called advocates for restructuring will be happy with the decision of Supreme Court against Executive Order 10 giving financial autonomy to the states judiciary & Assembly. To them, not really restructuring but something to fault Buhari government

Are there no PDP Governors or Southern Governors among the Governors that challenged the Executive Order 10 to give State Legislatures and Judiciary autonomy by Buhari’s government?
Who were those calling for RESTRUCTURING?

Nigeria is a country of the absurd.
The 36 State Governors has obtained a Supreme Court judgment against the FG, nullifying Executive Order 10 made by the President (on financial autonomy of judiciary). The heads of the Judiciary actually gave this judgment against themselves.

The learned law lords of the topmost floor in their wisdom nullified Executive Order 10. I wonder what their reasons were. This is one situation in which the Judiciary could have deepened the doctrine of separation of powers. But as I said, I’m lost in wonder.
