Many terrorists have been killed in a deadly clash between members of the Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists.
Naija News learned that the heavy clash happened on Tuesday at Gargaj village in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, the epicentre of insurgency in Nigeria.
According to an intelligence report obtained from top military sources by a counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the battle for supremacy resulted in heavy causalities on both sides.
The security analyst in the Lake Chad region revealed that a high-ranking Boko Haram Commander, Elhaj Ousman, was killed in the duel which occurred last week.
Recall that the two rival groups have been involved in a series of deadly clashes over supremacy. One of such clashes led to the death of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau, in 2021.
Meanwhile, terrorists suspected to be ISWAP members launched an attack on a military base in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
The ISWAP attackers on Tuesday night threw an explosive device over the fence of the military base situated along the Taraba State House of Assembly along the Sabon Gari road.
According to preliminary reports sent in by Naija News correspondent in the state, a passerby threw the explosive device over the fence but it is yet unclear if the passer-by had any form of backup or support from colleagues.
When our correspondent visited the location on Tuesday night after the explosion was heard around 9 pm in the state capital, soldiers didn’t allow anyone to pass through the barricade as they blocked off the entire area from civilian access.
However, on Wednesday morning, a military source in the base who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said no casualties were recorded and no destruction on the facility as the explosive landed on a plane ground.
