‘Justice Ariwoola Likely To Be Sworn-In As CJN Tomorrow’

Presidency sources have disclosed that Justice Olukayode Ariwoola will be sworn in as the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) by President Muhamadu Buhari before the end of today.

Naija News reported earlier that Justice Tanko Muhammad tendered his resignation letter on Sunday, declaring the top judicial seat vacant.

It was learned that Justice Muhammad resigned from the position over health issues.

Subsequent reports on Monday, however, revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari would swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola as the acting CJN by 2pm.

However, a Presidency source told The Nation that there is no swearing-in ceremony by 2pm going by the President’s schedule.

He said that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to place tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the sudden resignation of Justice Muhammad.

The source, however, said that the ceremony would take place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“There’s no swearing-in at 2pm. I have checked with those in charge of the President’s schedule and they said there’s nothing like that today. However, because of the urgency and as there can’t be a vacuum in the office, I think it might come up tomorrow although it’s still not on the schedule for tomorrow,” the source said.
