Naija News reports that universities lecturers have been on strike since February 14, 2022 over unresolved issues with the federal government.
Some of their demands include improved welfare for lecturers, revitalisation fund for public universities, implementation of the 2009 agreement, and dropping the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) for the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
Strike Continues, FG Yet To Take Action – ASUU
The Abuja branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on Tuesday, stated that its industrial action continues.
The union noted that the strike will continue because the Federal Government is yet to take action on its demands.
The ASUU branch chairman, Kassim Umaru, while addressing newsmen, charged the Federal Government to refer to efforts put in place to end the ongoing strike.
Umaru disclosed that the union deliberated on issues around the strike and rejected the offer presented by the Federal Government during the congress, held at the University’s Mini Campus in Gwagwalada on Tuesday.
He further stated that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union would meet at the end of the four weeks ultimatum to take its decision.
ASUU: Frustrated Parents Decide To Assist Buhari Govt Financially In Generating Income
The National Parent-Teacher Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN) has sought the audience of the Federal Government over the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) industrial action.
The parents are proposing to assist with the demands of the union by offering to pay a levy of N10, 000 per session to help the government in making more funds available for universities.
NAPTAN’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Ademola Ekundayo, disclosed this during an interview with PUNCH on Tuesday.
Ekundayo, while complaining about the prolonged strike, said parents were at the receiving end in the continous battle between ASUU and the government.
Adeyanju Backs ASUU On Continuous Industrial Action
