Political activist, Aisha Yesufu has reacted to a viral video of Local Government chairmen in Ogun State prostrating before the state governor, Dapo Abiodun.
The local government chairmen were seeking forgiveness over a comment made by their Ijebu East counterpart, Wale Adedayo, that Abiodun had diverted funds meant for the councils.
Adedayo wrote a letter to former Governor Olusegun Osoba and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the manners in which local government funds were being spent.
He had claimed that the 20 local governments in Ogun State were being run on zero allocation due to the joint account operated by the State and local governments.
However, apologies were tendered to the governor at a meeting held with all the council chairmen.
The local government chairmen pleaded with Abiodun to forgive them as the father that he is.
Reacting to the video, Yesufu wondered if the Ogun governor was not ashamed of such a charade.
She insisted that the autonomy of the local government must be worked on.
Speaking via Twitter, Yesufu wrote, “We cannot continue to leave politics to charlatans.
“Governor @dabiodunMFR is not ashamed of this charade?
“We need to seriously work on Local Government Autonomy.
“Can you imagine State Governors having to go and beg the President because one of them criticized the President?”
