‘Why Akpabio, Kalu, Others Visited Tinubu In Aso Rock’

The reason  Senate President Godswill Akpabio led a delegation to visit President Bola Tinubu in the Presidential Villa in Abuja has emerged.

Naija News reported that Akpabio led a delegation which comprised the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, and other lawmakers to see President Tinubu on Friday.

In a statement issued by Kalu’s spokesman, Levinus Nwabughiogu, the lawmakers went to brief President Tinubu about the outcome of the just concluded General Assembly of the Inter-Parlientary Union (IPU) held in Luanda, Angola.

He added that the president was informed of Akpabio’s election into the Executive Committee of the IPU after leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 147th general assembly of the union.

Nwabughiogu asserted that Nigeria had now taken her rightful place in the comity of nations following its election as an executive of the union.

According to Nwavughiogu, Akpabio said the country’s membership in IPU’s top committee would create job opportunities for Nigerians.

The statement reads: “A lot of employment opportunities will be created, and a lot of offices will be opened.

“Sub-national offices will be opened, and a lot of children who wish to be diplomats will have the opportunity of working there, and it will also attract foreign direct investment in the area of training and retraining and capacity building not just for the legislators but for people who are in different fields.

“It’s quite a lot, actually. The benefits are enormous. We thank God.

“And it is something we should dedicate to the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because it was happening at this time.

“And we were also consulting and briefing him on what was going on, and there were very critical decisions we had to make sure that he was involved as the President of the country because that was an international body. You can’t take a wrong step.”

On the recent Supreme Court judgement, Akpabio congratulated the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on the victory.

The Senate President also urged the opposition to join hands with him in building the nation.
