Over 10 Federal Ministries Get ₦1 Trillion Each In 2025 Budget

No fewer than 10 federal ministries and agencies have received appropriations exceeding ₦1 trillion each in the proposed 2025 budget.

According to Punch, this allocation is contained in the 2025 Appropriation Bill presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.

The ministries with the highest allocations include Police Affairs, Interior, Defence, Finance, Power, Works, Budget and Economic Planning, as well as Niger Delta, Education, and Health.

The Ministry of Finance received the highest allocation of ₦17.52 trillion, largely for salary payments. This marks an 87.78 per cent increase, or ₦8.19 trillion, from its 2023 allocation of ₦9.33 trillion.

Following this is the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, which saw an increase of ₦2.33 trillion or 52.35 per cent, bringing its total to ₦6.78 trillion.

The Ministry of Defence was allocated ₦2.92 trillion, an 84.81 per cent increase from the ₦1.34 trillion it received in 2024.

Other notable allocations include:

– Ministry of Interior: ₦1.13 trillion, up from ₦461 billion in 2024.

– Ministry of Power: ₦2.1 trillion, representing a massive 510.46 per cent increase from ₦344 billion in 2024.

– Ministry of Works: ₦1.14 trillion, up from ₦657.23 billion.

– Ministry of Niger Delta: ₦2.23 trillion.

– Ministry of Education: ₦2.52 trillion.

– Ministry of Health: ₦1.91 trillion.

The Senate and the House of Representatives passed the ₦49.7 trillion “Restoration Budget” for second reading last Thursday.

The approval followed deliberations on the budget’s general principles, with lawmakers commending President Tinubu for his “good intentions” for the nation.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the session, referred the budget to the Committee on Appropriations after it was passed through a voice vote.
