International Boxing Federation heavyweight champion, Daniel Dubois has expressed a strong interest in a rematch with Anthony Joshua, even as he prepares to defend his title against Joseph Parker in February.
“As a fighter, I’m eager to step back into the ring and add the finishing touches to our rivalry,” Daniel Dubois shared in an interview with Mirror.
“However, my primary focus right now is on defending my title. I believe a rematch with Joshua is certainly a possibility for the future, and for now, I’m excited to continue my journey.”
Dubois’s enthusiasm for a second fight arises from his impressive knockout victory over Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September. Yet, Joshua, a former two-time world champion, is not expected to return to the ring until at least May 2024, according to his promoter, Eddie Hearn.
Meanwhile, Joshua, who has earned over $200 million in his boxing career, remains a prominent figure in the heavyweight division and may explore other avenues toward success.
The WBC has approved a matchup between Zhilei Zhang and Agit Kabayel for their interim title, with the victor potentially facing Joshua.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman confirmed the development, stating, “The WBC has received a request to sanction this fight for the interim title, and we are pleased to accept it. We strive to facilitate the best possible matchups, particularly in the heavyweight division.”
In a strategic move for Joshua’s future, former unified light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan advised him to focus on a lucrative showdown with Tyson Fury before considering retirement.
“He should wait for the big fight against Tyson Fury,” Khan remarked to New Zealand Daily. “Both are significant names in boxing, and I believe it would be a fitting conclusion to his career.”
This much-anticipated Fury bout could potentially take place under the Riyadh Season banner, especially if His Excellency Turki Alalshikh offers a compelling contract following Fury’s attempt to reclaim his title from Oleksandr Usyk in December.
Joshua’s financial achievements have been noteworthy, with earnings of $75 million in 2024 alone, making him the second-highest earner behind Canelo Alvarez.
