‘They Might Not Be Our Members’ – APC Shuns Alleged Splinter Group’s Threat

2024 Rivers State Congress Will Hold Saturday- APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied any association with an alleged splinter group, Team New Nigeria (TNN), asserting that its members are not recognized as part of the ruling party.

On Sunday, TNN announced its departure from the APC, stating its intention to establish a new political party aimed at addressing Nigeria’s challenges, including poverty, hunger, insecurity, and widespread devastation.

During the inauguration of the Kano State harmonisation committee, TNN’s National President, Modibbo Farakwai, declared their ambition to rally at least 26 million voters nationwide.

Farakwai emphasized that their supporters were united in forming a new party committed to good governance, integrity, and leadership devoid of corruption and selfish interests.

In response, APC’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru, expressed surprise, dismissing the group’s claims and questioning their membership in the APC. Duru stated that neither the group’s name nor its leader was familiar within party circles.

A true APC member knows that there are internal mechanisms to address grievances before contemplating defection or forming another political party,” Duru said. “If these individuals were genuine members of the APC and familiar with our constitution, they would know the appropriate steps to bring about changes in leadership or resolve disputes.”

Duru also downplayed the potential impact of the group’s actions on President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election prospects, remarking that the APC remains confident.

They are welcome to attempt to challenge us in 2027. Political diversity enriches democracy, and as long as their activities align with legal frameworks, we have no concerns,” he added.

The APC reaffirmed its commitment to unity within the party, urging its members to adhere to the constitution and established processes for addressing issues.
