Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have carried out a series of clearance operations across multiple bandit hideouts in Taraba State as part of Operation Golden Peace.
The operation, which commenced after confidence-building patrols, clearance missions, and stakeholder engagements, has effectively restored stability in the northern part of the state.
The latest phase began on 28 November 2024, focusing on known bandit and terrorist hideouts around Lijem High Ground in Takum Local Government Area.
The troops cleared the area and extended their presence along the power line near Vingiri and Vingir villages, boosting the confidence of local residents.
In a confrontation at the notorious terrorist camps of New Gboko and Che Adekpe, linked to wanted criminal Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, AKA Boujogh, troops engaged the bandits in a fierce firefight.
The soldiers overwhelmed the criminals with superior firepower, forcing them to flee in disarray.
During the operation, several bandit camps were destroyed, and troops recovered:
– 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition
– 1 AK-47 magazine
– 1 handheld Baofeng radio
– 2 motorcycles
To solidify the safety of residents, troops extended their operations to the Akume and Ananum areas of Donga Local Government Area on 30 November 2024, reinforcing their commitment to securing lives and property throughout the state.
The Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the unwavering support of local communities.
“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” General Uwa assured the people.
