The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), late on Wednesday night, held an extended meeting ahead of Thursday’s National Executive Council (NEC) session, addressing significant issues including local government autonomy, the excess crude account, and petroleum profit tax.
The governors, who convened just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, gathered only hours after a closed-door session with President Bola Tinubu and the Council of Traditional Rulers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The NGF Secretariat, located in Maitama, Abuja, scheduled the meeting for 9 p.m., chaired by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq.
The governors received updates from several key officials, including Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, Acting Director General of the Department of State Security; Namadi Sambo, former Vice President and Chair of Delegation at the African Medical Excellence Center; and Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited.
Agenda items for the meeting include a review of the recent United Nations General Assembly, discussions on the excess crude account (ECA), reconciliation of petroleum profit tax (PPT) and royalties accounts, and issues related to the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s ground rent billing.
The agenda outline includes the Chairman’s opening remarks, a review of the previous meeting’s minutes, updates on the UN General Assembly, ECA and PPT reconciliations, ongoing legal cases involving NGF, leveraging $825 million to boost Nigeria’s agri-food sector, and presentations by key figures including former Vice President Sambo, DG Ajayi, and GCEO Kyari.
