Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has expressed confidence in emerging as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in the 2023 presidential elections.
Naija News reports that Wike stated this on Tuesday during his visit to Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina State as part of his consultations towards the 2023 presidency.
The Rivers governor was received by Governor Masari at the General Muhammadu Buhari Government House, Katsina metropolis.
Wike said the visit was to formally inform and seek Masari’s support in line with his intention to become the next Nigerian President in 2023.
The Rivers governor’s visit is coming ahead of the PDP National convention scheduled to hold on May 28 and 29 in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
On his part, Masari appreciated Wike for declaring his intention to contest for the office of the president, saying that the country is becoming united following his presidential bid.
The Katsina governor asserted that his Rivers counterpart has also contributed immensely to the development of the political process in the country.
He also commended Wike for the role he played in not allowing the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to penetrate and cause havoc in Rivers state.
Masari, however, appealed to politicians across the country to play politics in such a way that the nation and political processes will survive the 2023 elections.
He said: “It is gratifying to God to see people like you from Rivers State too aspiring to be president. That shows that the country is becoming one united country.
“I personally want to appreciate your role during the most difficult days of IPOB. I know what you did as a committed Nigerian. If you had allowed the situation to penetrate Rivers, only God knows where the situation would have been today.“
