Aloy Ejimakor lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to calls for Goodluck Jonathan to run for the 2023 presidency.
Ejimakor stated that the court would disqualify Jonathan from the presidential race if the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC does not.
The lawyer stated that it was impossible for Jonathan to run for presidency because he once occupied the position.
Basing his argument on Section 137(3) of the Nigerian Constitution, Ejimakor explained via a tweet that it is impossible for Goodluck to succeed Buhari.
He wrote: “2023: If INEC does not disqualify @GEJonathan, the Courts will, because Section 137(3) of the Constitution says that ‘A person who was sworn-in to complete the term for which another person was elected as President, shall not be elected to such office for more than a single term.”
Meanwhile, The Bayelsa State Government has distanced itself from the article released by Governor Douye Diri’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah with respect to the presidential ambition of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Alabrah who had clearly stated that his statement was personal said, the aspiration of the former president will shortchange the whole of southern Nigeria.
He warned that the emergence of Jonathan will deny southern Nigeria the chance of ruling the country for two terms. Read more
