Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s political party, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has claimed to have registered two million members in Borno State.
The State chairman of the party, Mohammed Mustafa, made the claim in Maiduguri on Sunday, bragging that the party is well prepared for the 2023 polls.
Naija News understands that Borno State’s population was about 5.86 million as of 2016. Though the state had suffered life losses over insurgent attacks in recent years, the number of people may not have reduced due to new births.
Speaking about NNPP’s readiness to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming election, Mustafa said the party is very popular in Borno and is now set to win the presidential polls for its candidate, Kwankwaso.
He boasted about winning at the state level, saying the party has a competent governorship candidate to swoop the polls.
“We have fielded candidates in all elective positions in Borno and have structures right from the wards to the state level, mobilising the electorate.
“Apart from our presidential candidate, who is Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, we have a governorship candidate, three senatorial candidates, 10 House of Representatives candidates , and 28 House of Assembly candidates to vote for massively in Borno.
“We are set to surprise others with our strength of over two million members and supporters.
“We are looking towards 2023 elections with full confidence and hope to win by the grace of God,” Mustafa said.
Mustapha also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for extending the ongoing Permanent Voters Card (PVC) registration and urged the people of Borno, particularly youths, to participate in the exercise.
He admonished eligible voters that are now more enlightened to take the pain to go and register so that they can actively participate in electing leaders of their choice.
