The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday presented a Certificate of Return to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Naija News reports that this development is coming after the former Vice President won the presidential primary of the main opposition party last Saturday.
Atiku polled 371 votes to defeat his closest contender Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, who polled 237 votes.
The National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyorcha Ayu, presented the certificate to Atiku at the NEC Hall, PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja.
Those present at the event were members of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), governors, governorship candidates, presidential aspirants, and members of the Board of Trustees of the party.
Others present at the ceremony are members of the National Assembly, all other candidates of the party and all critical stakeholders in the party.
The PDP Presidential candidate also took to his Twitter page to confirm his presence at the PDP National headquarters to receive the certificate of return.
The former vice president stated that the development is a significant step toward creating one Nigeria.
Atiku would be hoping to clinch the 2023 presidential election ahead of the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi and other presidential candidates.
I have just arrived at the Wadata Plaza, headquarters of the @OfficialPDPNig, to collect the Certificate of Return as the presidential candidate of our great party, the PDP. A significant step toward creating One Nigeria. -AA
