The Presidential Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has yet to submit its report to the National Working Committee of the ruling party.
Recall that the Chairman of the Screening Committee, John Odigie-Oyegun, had on Wednesday said that report would be submitted to the APC leadership on Thursday.
He disclosed that twelve aspirants were screened in the first batch of the exercise on Monday, while eleven hopefuls appeared before the committee on Tuesday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.
The former APC National Chairman said the committee would have submitted its report earlier but a large number of aspirants screened was responsible for the delay.
However, in a chat with Daily Trust on Thursday, Odigie-Oyegun said the panel is still working on the report, assuring that the public would be carried along when it is ready.
The APC chieftain, however, failed to give a specific date when the report of the committee would be ready.
“I don’t know yet, we haven’t finished it. We are still working on it,” he said.
Reacting to the delay of the report, presidential aspirant and former Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha said he was not worried about the development.
The presidential aspirant said there was no cause for alarm because of the calibre of the committee’s members.
He said: “It is okay, the report will be out eventually, I don’t foresee any problem because of the calibre of the committee’s members. They are people of timber and calibre. They are not new in politics and elections. There is no cause for alarm.”
Also reacting, a former Governor of Zamfara State and presidential hopeful, Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima, said the delay was nothing to be worried about.
He said: “It’s a party matter; they are in the right direction, they are taking their time to ensure that there are no mistakes. There is still time, the convention is on Monday and the results can be released on Saturday. I have confidence in the committee.”
