2023: Akpabio To Officially Join Presidential Race On Wednesday

A former Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is set to formally declare his interest to succeed President Muhamamdu Buhari in 2023.

According to his media aide, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio will declare his intention to join the presidential race on Wednesday, April 4, in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital.

Ekong added that the minister will be contesting the 2023 presidency on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akpabio will join the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu; Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and Minister of State for Education, Chukuemeka Nwajiuba, to contest for the APC presidential ticket on May 30.

Others are Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, former Imo Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha, and former Senate President Ken Nnamani, among others.

Meanwhile, a pro-Tinubu group has vowed to reject any consensus arrangement for the selection of the APC’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The Chairman of the South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), Senator Dayo Adeyeye, made this known while speaking to reporters after picking the APC presidential forms for the APC national leader.

The SWAGA chairman urged the ruling APC to allow all aspirants to contest for the party’s 2023 presidential ticket and test their popularity at the primaries.

Adeyeye asserted that the APC national leader understands the diverse nature of the Nigerian economy and can tackle the insecurity in the country.
